Fusion Industry Association Deploys Letter to Congress Advocating for Public-Private Partnerships

Partnering with Governments

On Thursday, November 21, the Fusion Industry Association (FIA) sent a letter, signed by 15 member companies, to the House and Senate Appropriations Committee advocating for two public-private partnership programs for fusion energy at the U.S. Department of Energy.

Based upon previously established programs for R&D with federal agencies, FIA believes this approach utilizes the best of government and private industry. With Congress’ support, the emerging fusion industry will be able to leverage growing amounts of private investment capital, ensuring that the US remains the global leader in the race to commercialize fusion power.

“Once developed, fusion energy will have the ability to transform America’s energy system. Congress is uniquely suited to empower the fusion industry and continue to develop America’s leadership in this area,” said Andrew Holland, Executive Director of the Fusion Industry Association.

In September, the Senate Appropriations Committee marked up their version of the Energy and Water Appropriations bill, funding fusion programs in the U.S. Department of Energy. It passed the committee unanimously.

FIA is now asking that Members of Congress, in the process of reconciliation between the House and Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Bills, to retain the 2 Public Private Partnerships enunciated within the original Senate markup.

“We are excited to build upon September’s momentum and continue to advocate for this important program. With the help of Congress, the FIA Member Companies will be able to continue to develop and invest in this transformational energy sector,” said Holland.

The Fusion Industry Association is an international association of companies working to electrify the world with fusion.
