FIA Provides Recommendations for Euratom Research and Training Programme

The Fusion Industry Association (FIA) welcomes the opportunity to provide comments to the Euratom Research and Training Programme, which aims to foster fusion energy development and contribute to the European Research Roadmap to the Realisation of Fusion Energy. The programme is calling for input regarding a substantial reorganisation that will support a shift from purely academic research to technical questions surrounding the design, building, and operation of future fusion facilities.

The Fusion Industry Association EU team took part in the first edition of the Dutch Fusion Day organised by DIFFER, the Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research. Over 200 participants from the public and private sectors attended the full-day conference in Eindhoven on May 3, 2024 to discuss scientific, technological, and political developments accelerating fusion energy.

UK Department for Energy and Net Zero Publishes Scoping Consultation for Fusion Facility Planning Process

The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has published a scoping consultation on National Policy Statement EN8 – the policy statement which will guide the process for fusion facilities in the UK. Following the Energy Act 2023 confirmation that fusion facilities will be regulated separately from fission in the UK, the Fusion Energy NPS will provide further clarity on the fusion planning process for developers and communities – an important step in the development of the UK’s fusion sector.

European Commission on “The EU Blueprint for Fusion Energy”

The European Commission hosted an event on April 23 in Strasbourg focused on “The EU Blueprint for Fusion Energy” with participation by FIA EU Director Cyrille Mai Thanh and our EU-based FIA members and affiliate members. The event discussed the role of the EU in accelerating the development of commercial fusion power, and ways public and private sectors can collaborate.
